Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a Quick Connect® Line Set?

It is a specialized, pre-charged copper piping system used to connect the indoor air handler to the outdoor condenser of a mini-split HVAC system. Unlike traditional copper lines that are empty and require professional preparation, Quick Connect® lines come sealed from the factory with the precise amount of refrigerant already inside.

Why don’t I need a vacuum pump during installation?

In a traditional HVAC installation, a technician must use a vacuum pump to suck out all the ambient air and moisture from the empty copper lines before releasing the refrigerant. Because Quick Connect® lines are already vacuumed, sealed, and pre-charged at the factory, this step is entirely bypassed. When you tighten the specialized couplers, an internal mechanism opens the flow of refrigerant without letting any outside air or moisture in.

Can I cut the line set if it is too long for my setup?

Absolutely not. Because the lines are pressurized with refrigerant, cutting them will instantly vent the refrigerant into the atmosphere. This will permanently ruin the line set, void your warranty, and can be dangerous. If you have excess line, it should be carefully coiled horizontally (to ensure proper oil return to the compressor) and stored neatly out of the way near the outdoor condenser.

Are systems with pre-charged lines as efficient as traditionally installed systems?

Yes. As long as the couplers are tightened correctly to prevent leaks, a system using Quick Connect® lines operates with the exact same energy efficiency (SEER rating) and heating/cooling capacity as a traditionally brazed and vacuumed system.

Is it safe to disconnect the lines if I need to move the unit later?

The Quick Connect® couplers are designed for a secure, permanent, one-time connection to ensure a leak-proof seal.

How tight do the connections need to be?

The connections must be tightened exactly to the manufacturer's specified torque using standard wrenches or a torque wrench. Under-tightening is the most common cause of slow refrigerant leaks over time, while severe over-tightening can strip the brass threads. Always follow the specific instructions provided with your system.
